It’s Friday the 13th, and you had the bad luck to not have anything better to do than click on the link from my Facebook post and end up here. What makes it even worse is that while you are reading whatever boring-@ss crap I can come up with here, I’m off listening the Truck Race from Daytona (since the great powers-that-be in charge of such things won’t broadcast it on TV until tomorrow, which by then, one way or the other, I’ll know the winner of the race).
Oh yeah, in case those following along at home didn’t get it from my Facebook posts, this is NASCAR Speedweek at Daytona. By the time you read this, the lineup for Sunday’s Daytona 500 has been set (Kyle Busch claimed the pole for Richard Childress Racing), and we’re getting ready for four races across four series across this weekend.
Now I know that you’re probably thinking how bored you’d be if you had to watch all these races. Well, I’ll tell you, I’ll watch 100 races where the winner is leading by five laps before the halfway mark if it meant never again hearing how offended people were by Bad Bunny’s Half Time Show Performance, or how offended people were by people being offended by Bad Bunny’s Half Time Show Performance.
As for my Mom and I, this past week was fairly quiet. We made a few trips to London and Ingersoll to get supplies. As some of you might have noticed from my Facebook page, my Mom took on another “home fix-em-up project,” as my Dad used to say. She painted the main floor bathroom. I would like it noted that I helped pick out the colour, which we both think looks good. But I must give credit where credit is due, my Mom stripped all the wallpaper off, did all the painting and also made the curtains. The biggest issue, post-project, is that she still has almost a full can of blue paint and she’s not sure what to do next.
Our biggest adventure of the week took us north of Thamesford to Stratford. This morning, it was a nice sunny day with clear roads and a bit of far-off fog that soon dissipated and so we decided to hit the road for a morning get-away. Don’t get too excited: it was just a trip to the Habitat for Humanity Restore and Value Village. I was rather surprised to see just how much NASCAR-related stuff was at the Village. I passed on the Dale Earnhardt Blvd. steel sign and the Darrell Waltrip autobiography because I knew I had both of them. However, while the book on driving race cars was new, it turns out that I had “Speed, Guts and Glory: 100 Unforgettable Moments in NASCAR History” but this edition still had the DVD and the cover on it. (Some day I need to see what publishers put out those coffee table books and write one.)
As for my job hunt, I wasn’t as productive this week as I have been in the past. Having said that, I did have a bit of a positive turn in that department. I won’t go into too much detail, so as not to jinx anything. However, it was enough to keep me motivated and inspired. Hopefully, this next week will provide more inspiration and, more importantly, some positive results.
By the way, I want to give my friend Chris and his wife Kerry a shout-out for mentioning that they read my blog. Always good to know that someone out there is reading this. It makes me want to come back next week and write more.
Once I post this, I’ll be AFK for the long weekend. Some call it Presidents’ Day Weekend; some call it Family Day Weekend. For me, it is Daytona weekend, so I wish everyone the best and will be back to see what’s been happening on Tuesday.
As always, if you have an opinion on anything mentioned here, drop me a line on Facebook Messenger – either by text or voice message – or via email.
