Wooden sign on door reading 'Out to lunch back in a week'

Welcome once again to all the bots and data centres, along with a couple of people I might actually know in real life.

It’s been a boring-@$$ week so this will be a short update. In between the continued job hunt and trying to get all the things on my To Do list done by my birthday, I came to a epiphany: I’m trying to do too much at one time. I have a number of projects that I’ve wanted to get done for a long time and every time I sit down to plan things out, I figure this will be the time I do it. My problem is that I break everything done into chunks which isn’t the issue. The issue is that I end up starting every day with about two dozen things I want to get done. There have been days when I’ve come to the end of a day and thought “Okay, I got everything I wanted to get done” and there are days when I’ve come away thinking “Well, I got what I needed to get done but I have to carry the rest over to tomorrow.”

So I end up figuring if I can get everything done over the weekend, then I can start the next week fresh. But instead of actually accomplishing anything, I end up just looking at the list and think “Oh, I don’t want to do any of this…but I know I need to get this all done.” Of course if I’m on the computer trying to do anything, I end up scrolling through social media.

Question: Is anyone else’s Facebook feed utter garbage at this point? I don’t know if people have me among the people they block from seeing their posts or what. Literally, I can scroll through 20 posts and see, if I’m lucky, one post from someone I know. The rest are all angry people I don’t know who have nothing better to do than swear at people who don’t follow their narrative to the letter. (I thought X was this hate-filled platform but Facebook gives it a good run for it’s money.)

Anyways, as of 4:30 p.m. MT (Milner Time), I have decided to go from being unemployed to being on vacation for a week. What this means is that I’ll still check the job boards throughout the week, I’ll still update the social media accounts I take care of (Shelf Life, The Ingersoll District Nature Club, and the Heroes of Zorra Project), will probably produce some content for John Milner’s Track Talk, and will periodically check my email and Messenger.

Other than that, I am just going to veg. My hope is that I can just relax, do some reading, watch a few movies or binge-watch a season or two of something. Oh, who am I kidding? I’ll probably be watching some Old School NASCAR or WWF as well. My goal: disconnect and stop stressing over my To Do list and what the rest of the world is up to.

Knowing myself as well as I do (although apparently not as well as the Internet knows how people like me think – IYKYK), I’ll probably work on some writing projects here and there. As my Mom says, pretty much every since I left King’s, I’ve been trying to get as much as I can done. There’s been a few days here and there were I’ve been sidelined due to ill health but for the most part I’ve been working hard, accomplishing nothing, and stressing out over that.

I figure if I take a week to relax, recharge and get refocused, I’ll be better for it. When I get back, I’m going to be streamlining my daily activities. Instead of trying to work on two dozen bits of bigger projects, I’m going to focus on one project at a time, get it off the books and then move on to the next one.

Until we meet again, I hope everyone has a happy and safe and healthy week ahead.
