Compared to last week’s rather lengthy blog, which included details about how I was afraid my Mom and I would be arrested for breaking and entering (it’s not as exciting as you might think) and multiple trips to Glencoe, this week’s edition might be rather boring.
My Mom and I did take a few road trips but it was just over to Ingersoll, mostly for groceries. On Wednesday, however, we did go to Home Hardware to get supplies for some household chores and then on to VanBeek’s Nursery and Garden Centre to get a couple of plants. With the nicer weather (no rain but not sweltering hot), my Mom has been doing some yard work and other home improvement projects this past week. I was able to give her a hand from time to time to make things easier on her.
The job hunt still continues. I applied for eight jobs this week, with one more to do tomorrow. I haven’t had too much return on my investment but perhaps with the second half of the summer about to commence, people will be coming back from vacations and starting to hire for the fall. (There is a strong possibility that someone checked my LinkedIn account about a job I applied for at the end of May.)
If my Mom has taken advantage of the nice weather for yard work and projects, I’ve done the same to stick on the back porch and read a bit. I finished up The Visionaries by James Holland, a book about U.S. involvement in the Second World War, as well as pre- and post-war Europe, for Shelf Life Magazine and continue to work my way through Moon by Tony Fletcher, a biography of former Who drummer Keith Moon.
Speaking of Shelf Life, I have arranged to meet with Paul Sutter, the editor and publisher on Tuesday to pick up the new issues of Shelf Life and some more books for review. I can then embark on updating the Shelf Life website with excerpts from the August/September 2026 issue. I am not sure if I will have it completed by the next time I blog but if so, I will let you know. Meanwhile, if you are in the London area, be sure to check the usual outlets for the new issue.
I’ve been doing a fair bit of writing this past week, mostly for John Milner’s Track Talk. What can I say, something about the Brickyard 400 inspired me. I have to update the main page of the website but, meanwhile, you can get the links on the Facebook page.
There’s actually no NASCAR at all this week (which is kind of a shock that, even if there was no Cup race, there wouldn’t be something from the Trucks or the O’Reilly Series). My sister and nephew were supposed to come down for overnight but they’ve decided to wait for a couple of week when they can have a proper visit. I have a few things to do this weekend, including some more reading, including this book on SEO I’m working my way through, and some more writing. However, as I told my friend, Kelly, I may see if I can’t finally restart One Tree Hill and make it to the end of the series, especially since this is the Civic Holiday Long Weekend.
