While I couldn’t imagine a scenario where a former NBA-superstar-turned-NASCAR-team-owner viewed my website, I had a fairly good week.
On Monday, my Mom and I headed over to Stratford. While we visited Habitat for Humanity and Value Village, the main reason was so that my Mom could finally check out the Fabricland that is technically part of Festival Marketplace Mall. I did take a walk through the mall but for the most part I was hanging out in Fabricland, helping my Mom in getting material for a poncho and pillows for our living room couch.
I didn’t see anything that piqued my interest in my travels to Stratford, but it was great to take a little road trip, and be able to help my Mom pick out material. She says that my Dad had good taste when it came to selecting fabric and I’ve followed in his footsteps. She has already made several pillows using the fabric I chose and she agrees that they look pretty good.
While I did get a “Thanks for applying but we’re going with another candidate” letter from one job I had been pursuing, I also got a solid first step on the path to another one. On Wednesday, I had a preliminary telephone interview for a job in Ingersoll that seems very promising. I am hoping that it will follow up with an invite for an in-person interview. (In addition to my background and skills, I definitely talked up how much I liked Ingersoll. It has a small town feel with big city amenities, is how I phrased it.)
As for why I’m posting a blog on a Thursday evening…
Well, I am heading to Whitby next week to attend my nephew’s high school graduation so I’m trying to get ahead on my “To Do” list. I’m actually surprising myself by how much I am getting done today. I think Friday is going to be a wrap-up day at this point and then I can chill on Saturday, maybe binge-watch something. Sunday, however, will be spent getting everything packed, ready, and double-checked before our trip.
And before anyone shames me with “John, you’re telling people that your house will be unoccupied. You might get robbed,” remember this: no one randomly visits my blog. WordPress lets me know that all visitors to my blog posts come from Facebook. When I post a link to my blog on Facebook, only my Facebook friends can see the post.
In other words, if my place gets robbed, it’s because one of you muther&%#@*$s did it.
I’m kidding … plus I’m almost positive 99% of you don’t know exactly where I live.
I’ve continued to work my way through Spin City, although I’m kinda tiring of it. Ever since Michael J. Fox (who turned 65 over the last couple of weeks!) left, the chemistry just isn’t there, especially with Charlie Sheen and Heather Locklear. I may continue to watch or I may see what else I can binge.
I finished Day of the Flying Fox: The True Story of World War II Pilot Charley Fox by Steve Pitt. Geared more toward young people, it was a fairly easy book to get through, but it told an important story about a true Canadian hero, even if he felt he was just serving his country when it needed him. My grandfather worked with Charley Fox during the 1950s and 1960s, I believe, so it was great to read about someone my family had sort of a personal connection to. Next up is Moon: The Life and Death of A Rock Legend by Tony Fletcher, about Keith Moon, the drummer for the Who.
Last weekend, my Mom and I watched Convoy, the 1978 trucker movie starring Kris Kristofferson and Ali McGraw. I had watched bits of it back when I was a kid. (I think it was one of those movies that would start at 9 p.m. and my sister and I would have to go to bed halfway through.) Of the CB radio/trucker movies of the period, I definitely prefer Smokey and the Bandit but Convoy was okay. I think it was trying to tell a story about politics, the media, and grassroots folk heroes but I think most people just came for the big rigs and some of the slowest chase scenes I’ve ever seen.
And with that, I’ll let you get back to your week and prepping for the weekend. Hope everyone is doing well. Wish me luck on my trip and, if all goes well, I will have details next week.
